I am an adult woman and I have never been vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV). Should I be vaccinated?
In some European Union countries, vaccination can be offered to young adult women, but the vaccination is less effective once sexual activity has started and is ineffective against infections that you may already have. Vaccination will only be effective if you have not yet been exposed to the HPV types that the vaccine protects against. As it is impossible to know which HPV types you have been exposed to, it is not possible to say whether you could benefit from vaccination.
