Should I have an human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) test?

Yes. Everybody should know their HIV status. Delaying treatment allows the virus to spread in the body and damage your health, in addition to possibly infecting your sexual partners. The tests used nowadays can usually tell whether a person has HIV within a month of infection. The most common tests take only a small amount of blood or saliva.
